International Self Care Day - July 24, 2020

Uncategorized Jul 20, 2020

On July 24th, help us celebrate International Self Care Day and the importance of Self Care to the health of Australians and to the health care system.

Our journey through the pillars of Self Care has to start with health literacy!  That means understanding the role emotional health for example plays in our overall ability to self manage health conditions, vital health appointments and more.

Follow on from that is the interconnectness of all other areas of our life to our general wellbeing. Self Care includes Physical Self Care, Spiritual Self Care, Social Self Care, Community Self Care, Career Self Care, Financial Self Care and Planet Self Care

Using resources and education we can learn about our health, how to improve it and protect it and what we can do when we notice issues.

With over 31 million posts on Instagram alone about #selfcare, many of them are wrong and promote Self Care products from bath bombs to yoga retreats.Whilst there is a place for these, they are not about practising Self Care from a holistic view point.

So what is Self Care:

Self-care is a lifelong habit and culture. It is the practice of individuals looking after their own health based on the knowledge and information available to them. It is a decision-making process that empowers individuals to look after their own health efficiently and conveniently, in collaboration with health and social care professionals as needed.
